Friday Links and more…

Stating the obvious….but I must mention that today is the last day of May.  ICAD starts tomorrow at Daisy Yellow.  I think I’m going to try to participate…click on the link to find out more about it.  It’s about tiny pieces of art on index cards…your choice of media.

I’m not sure what I’ll do with this, but I think it is an interesting effect. I found an interesting face in a magazine. I used two pieces of deli paper….the first one I put over the magazine face and loosely followed the lines of the face with a brush and turquoise blue paint and a Blick Studio marker in Teal Green.  The second piece of deli paper is a line drawing with a Sharpie marker…I grabbed up the first paint(yellow) on my desk and painted that face.  I’m going to use some more colors later.  I put the blue brush drawing over the line drawing, lined up the two faces,  and taped them to a glass door in order to take photos:

I also reworked a journal page from the previous post:

experiments,etc…

“The most beautiful thing

we can experience is the mysterious.

It is the source of all true art and science.”

Albert Einstein

I have been experimenting in my altered book journal.   The first photo shows a page where I only used oil pastels on the background.  The face on the left is a magazine face that I painted over, while the face on the right is a quick face I painted with a brush and black acrylic paint.  The one on the right is painted on deli paper which allows the background color to show through the drawing.

On this next one, I covered the page with mostly text paper pieces.  Some of the pieces had doodles or paint on them and I incorporated them into the final page. I used my Sharpie Pen to doodle over some areas.

This page started with black acrylic paint in swirls and squares over the original text of the book.  Then I used a wooden skewer to apply the paint by rolling it in some areas and pouncing the tip over other areas.  I’ve been using Jacquard luminaire acrylic paint in burnt orange a lot lately.  It shows up as mostly brownish in color.  It also makes a great skin color when mixed with Titanium White paint.

weekend catch up…

I’ve been “off” all week…maybe next week will be better 🙂  I have been busy in my art cave…I started two  paintings on cardboard and have already painted over one of them.  Here’s a journal spread and a page from my sketchbook:

journal spreads…

It was my intention to put these on here yesterday but I had a doctor’s appointment and the day was gone before I knew it.  These are the two spreads I did for Andria‘s journal.  The first one is on a watercolor background and is all collage. The piece in the upper left corner is from an old Gary Patterson calendar.   The second has random text pieces glued on as a background.  I used stenciling and a doodle face and corner from an earlier old book I was using as a sketch doodle book. I went crazy with stenciling on this one 😀

I forgot to mention, on this one, I painted and stenciled on a piece of Deli paper and cut out a piece for her hair.

Friday Links and more…

Never allow anyone to rain on your parade and thus cast a pall of gloom and defeat on the entire day. Remember that no talent, no self-denial, no brains, no character, are required to set up in the fault-finding business. Nothing external can have any power over you unless you permit it. Your time is too precious to be sacrificed in wasted days combating the menial forces of hate, jealously, and envy. Guard your fragile life carefully. Only God can shape a flower, but any foolish child can pull it to pieces.
Og Mandino quote (American Essayist and Psychologist, 19231996)

It’s been a busy week.  It’s raining again….very cool weather for this spring.  Grandson’s graduation was last night and Awards night on Tuesday.

This page is from my altered book journal.  I started with ink dribbles.  There’s no acrylic paint on this page…I used Caran d’ache crayons and some oil pastels.  I used a dip pen in acrylic ink for the black lines.

Cereal girl and other things…

I need to be working on the spreads for round robin journal group.  I now have Andria‘s journal.  After I finish with it and send it on, that will mark the beginning of round two.

While watching TV Sunday, I drew this quick doodle sketch with my non-dominant hand.  I decided against cleaning up the lines with a bold marker but I did use my blue Prismacolor chisel tip marker to add some more interest.

Yesterday, I made this page in my eastern medicine altered book journal.  It’s painted paper, acrylic paint and purple acrylic ink. I’m finding that I love acrylic ink. It can be watered down or used full strength. While working on the page…I saw the face…I had to bring it out 🙂

IMG_0714

IMG_0706

There was a photo of some grains and seeds, etc., on one of the pages.  I doodled a face over the photo and used some watercolors and markers to embellish it. This is cereal girl 🙂  I wasn’t going to show it…but I thought, why not?

Friday art and link love…

I planned to post earlier in the week but our internet was down for two days.  Our phone company sent us a new modem…it’s better and faster now 🙂

Today was our local library’s book sale.  I picked up some great books for altering or junk journal fodder.  Maybe I’ll take some photos of some of my loot for a later post.

I have a spread in my altered book journal to post  and a sketchbook page of a quick doodle sketch I drew with my non dominant hand.

sketchbook doodles and link love Friday…

I’ve been doodle sketching in my new Daler Rowney sketchbook I picked up at China Mart(Wal Mart).

On this first one, I used a Pilot ultra fine point NO XYLENE pen.  I love using it, although it does feather and bleed a little bit.  Part of that could be due to the paper in the sketchbook.

IMG_0654

IMG_0655

I used colored markers and pens on this page.  I started with a quote from a book:  Proverbs for Daily Living, using a blue Prismacolor chisel tip marker.

Happy May Day!

It’s the first day of May….2013 is going fast!  There are lots of various activities going on this month…graduation (grandson), birthdays (mine, and, one of my sisters), and Mother’s Day, to name a few.

I wanted to show a journal spread I finished this week.  I glued down some painted paper scraps on one side and didn’t know what to do with the other side.  I put the face there and it went through several different reincarnations before I settled on this one.   I used ink, acrylic paint, watercolor crayons and Stablio black pencil. I threw a lot of “stuff” at it and she still needs something but I felt it was time to move on to another project.
