Grouply-a website/service

I am in several Yahoo groups and received this warning email about a service called Grouply. Here’s most of the email:

About Grouply – Some questions have been raised recently about a website/service called ‘Grouply’. After doing some fairly extensive research through various avenues, the determination about Grouply is to STAY VERY FAR AWAY!!One member just VISITED the site and now other members are getting
‘please join’ spam from Grouply. The website’s official purpose is a
service to allow you to tie together all your yahoo groupsand google
groups into one easily navigable page. But these guys go way too far.

When one joins Grouply, you give them your yahoo i.d. and password
(which is a screaming red flag right there). That gives them access
to ALL your yahoo data. Mail, groups, financial data, EVERYTHING.
In order to sync all your group info in one place, grouply downloads
your group’s entire database AND your address book. It changes your
mail preferences and even your mail address to Grouply.

Worse yet, a yahoo group memberwho joins Grouply allows them to
upload to the group as well, in your name, links to viral and malware
loaded sites. Once Grouply gets access to a group, they can do
anything they want to it. All of the members’ information becomes
freely available on Grouply.

There has also been some indication that one of the side ‘businesses’
of Grouply is address mining. Anecdotal stories abound of
groups. . . infected by Grouply whose members see a surge of spam
mail in the group’s name.

In short, Grouply is bad news, and it is highly recommended that you avoid it at all costs.
Big time bad news. Any member who has had ANY contact with Grouply contact your group moderators.

Bottom line: don’t give out your password or ID’s!
