Soul Food and 4×4’s…

“You must embrace your limitations and keep moving.  In the end, creativity isn’t just the things we choose to put in, it’s the things we choose to leave out.  Choose wisely.  And have fun.”  ~Austin Kleon~

I’ve been having fun.  I’m taking the Soul Food adventure over at Mystele’s ning site.  Last week, Gwenn Seemel gave a lesson showing her unique style of drawing with colored markers and pens. I tried it and I will have to practice a long time before I’m comfortable with it.  I didn’t know about Gwenn before this workshop.  If you haven’t seen her work, do go to her website and check it out.

Here’s a duckling I made trying out her style…

I made eight more 4×4 pieces of art this week.  So far, when making these…I start with an 8×8 piece of paper (Bristol Vellum) and cut them apart later.  This first set of four started with a yellow background.  I glued collage pieces from some of my painted phone book pages.  Then I added more acrylic paint…putting some on, taking some off.  I finished with line work. I used a dip pen and black Sumi Ink.  I like the ultra fine point marker I used of the previous pieces best.

The next set of four started with white paper.  I glued on some painted deli paper collage pieces and some magazine collage pieces.  I used gloss gel medium to glue down the collage pieces.  Next, I used various shades of green acrylic paints. I used gloss gel over the last one in the set.  I don’t think the photo shows all the texture from the gel medium.

…until next time,  everyone have a great weekend!!!
