I have been laying watercolor down on some pages in my Strathmore journal. I am fairly new at working with watercolors. The watercolors I am using are the affordable Prang brand watercolors. You can find the eight color set in lots of places like Target, etc. You will probably find them in the children’s craft section of the store. I ordered a sixteen color set from Dick Blick…I think it was less than $4. I’m not willing to spend a lot of money for the more expensive watercolors until I’m sure that I will use them often. I used a Sharpie Pen and a uni-ball Signo Pen for making all of the lines.
I really love the look of watercolor, but I have such a difficult time controlling them / the water! You’ve made a wonderful piece with a very challenging medium here, Mary! 🙂

For just starting out with watercolors I’d say you’re doing some amazing work. This is beautiful. I like all the colors you used and how her face is peeking out.

Beautiful!! I was always using acrylic paints on my journal pages, and then discovered how much easier it is to work over the top of watercolor. But I don’t always have good luck getting the vibrancy I would prefer. I hope that you will share any discoveries and tips along the way as you begin working in this medium!

This is amazing. I really like the detailing you did in pen; it makes the picture pop right out. I still haven’t gotten around to doing anything with watercolors, but this makes me want to take it up. Love it
