Mixed Media – Girl

This piece started as a pencil drawing.  I glued on the collage pieces and then used watercolor pencils and acrylic paint to accent those.  I think the shadows on the one eye are too dark but I didn’t know how to correct that so I just left it.  I used burnt umber India Ink and that made for way too much contrast between the paleness of her skin and her eyes.  The face is a combination of watercolor pencils and acrylic paint.  The watercolors  do not translate very well in the photograph.  The original doesn’t look as pale as it shows here.   The quotation says “Hope is like the sun, which, as we journey toward it, casts the shadow of our burden behind us.” – Samuel Smiles
