Moleskine Face – #2

I could probably work on this some more but  I’m done…I’m tired of working on it.  I see a jillion things wrong with it.  I made a supersized girl spanning both pages of the journal.    I  throughly enjoy drawing  the Suzi faces and it’s very good practice for me because I need to work on shading.  I have never been a fan of colored pencils but I am learning how to use them better as I tend to have a heavy hand and shade too much.  I bought a few bottles of Stewart Gill’s paints when I was taking the first Suzi class.  I used the Byzantia paints on this face.  If you want to learn more about the paints, I think the website is  Stewart Gill dot com.

Moleskine Faces

I started a new Moleskine sketchbook to use mainly to practice drawing faces.  Here’s my first attempt at adding color to my sketches.   I do not have the various shades of colored pencils that Suzi recommends so I had to use what I have.  I am waiting for pencils from Dick Blick. This was also my first experience to use clear gesso and I love the texture I was able to achieve.  I didn’t realize that the skin tones of the two girls are so different until I scanned my journal pages.

More Sketches

I worked on some more sketches today.  After using the Suzi formula on the first one or two, I started doing my own thing.  The sketch showing the face turned to one side was drawn while looking at a picture.  I would like to turn one or two of these into paintings.  This class is turning out to be a great discipline for me…if anyone is wondering about it, I would highly recommend the class.

Goddess & Poet Class

Today, I have been working on sketches for Suzi Blu’s class, Goddess and Poets.  Here is one of the first sketches ala Suzi.  This is a great discipline for me.  I took the first Petite Dolls class she offered over a year ago.  Those are more folk art type girls but the Goddess class stresses a more realistic girl.

Another Dolly

I finished this yesterday.  This is my first attempt at painting on wood and using a wood burning tool.  I could grow to like it very much. I apologize for the poor quality of the photo.

Doll Sketches

Here are two sketches I did as practice for the Suzi Blue workshop:

Suzi Blu Workshop

This is another Suzi Blu girl I finished this morning. I am going to have to learn when to stop with layering. That’s how one learns, I suppose. This is done on watercolor paper. I’m not feeling brave enough to try on wood yet. Suzi is keeping the workshop open until the end of the year when she will begin a different workshop.

Suzi Blu Workshop Effort

I quickly made this Suzi Blu girlie on a page in my Moleskine journal. I used watercolor pencils plus regular colored pencils. I also used acrylic paints.
