Postcards and pages…

I have received five postcards from Hanna’s postcard swap.  I’m showing four of them because the fifth one came after I’d taken the photo.  I’ll show it later.

Hanna sent me the first card from Sweden.

The second card came from Oregon and was sent by Diane.

Number three was sent by Cyndee.

The last card in the photo came from Fanie in Canada.

Here are two more pages in my Book of Days journal that has morphed into my “big journal.” The second page may not be finished…I was playing with Tombow markers and watercolors. It was an experiment and I’m thinking I’ll just move on :)

Final Note:  I did join Pinterest.  My user name there is Mary/joyfulploys…if you want to check out my pages.  I also received an email from Pinterest last week stating that they have changed their agreement terms and they are now clear that “selling content was never our intention.”  Some artists are leery about joining Pinterest for various reasons and that was one of them.

The Green Shamrock and Local Color…

I found one  Irish postcard among my small collection of old postcards.  This one is postmarked 1908.  The people who touched this card have long since left this earthly plane.  The back side shows an address that the card went to Miss Mabel Galloway, 261 Jay Street, Utica, NY and is simply signed Gerald….no message, just his name written in pencil. This card was illustrated by the noted artist, Ellen H. Clapsaddle.

I took the backroad to the post office today…here’s some of our local color.  My mom grew up in this area. A few days ago, the two of us were on the same road and she was telling me about the people who lived along the road.  She knew the couple who lived in the old log cabin.  The Red Bud trees are popping out all over here in our little corner of the Ozarks.

If you double click on the first photo, you should be able to see all the photos in a slideshow format:

MERRY CHRISTMAS

I’ll see you next year! Have a happy holiday season…be back after the new year.

I found three Christmas cards in my collection of old post cards.  This antique post card doesn’t have a date on the back…it has written in a corner:”to Uncle Marian from Emma.”   The photo doesn’t do it justice, the flower has a velvet texture.

This next card dates back to 1910…one cent to mail it…here’s front and back:

This is a small flip card from some time past…I really do not know about its age:

lost in a flurry of pages and postcards…

I’m still here…after recovering from Thanksgiving, I was finally able to get back to my art.  I did two spreads for a round robin journaling group.  There are four of us involved in that project.  It will extend into the middle of next year.  I was asked by Danielle over at A Love Affair With Paper to take part in the project.  Danielle has written an explanation of the project on her blog, click here and go to the November 29th post to read about it.  I will be posting more about that as we go along.

After getting my journal mailed to Danielle, I made some postcards.  I used one for my heading.  I can’t seem to get away from the book pages no matter what I do :D   I also very quickly used some Caran d’Ache crayons and some white paint on one of my zen doodles.  This poor girl looks like she isn’t going to get anything for Christmas this year.

Postcard Obsession

We have been trying to declutter around our house. We got our outside storage cleared…now, to begin on the basement.  I have been working on some more postcards. I can do pen work in the evenings while watching tv. I joined Postcrossing the first of April. I have received 15 postcards from all over the world.  I sent out these three cards today:

This card is off to Louisianna.

I made this card using a part of an illustration from a vintage magazine. It’s going to Ukraine.

This is a commercial postcard.  It reminds me of Andy Warhol.  I sent this one to The Netherlands.

———————————————————————————

The next two cards are future postcrossing candidates.  I used a Bic Mark-it ultra fine point permanent marker pen on these two cards.  I like using this as well as the Sharpie Pen. The Bic pen has a tendency to bleed a little bit.  The Sharpie makes a more delicate defined line.

Have a great weekend!!!

Postcards again…

I have finally made it back.  Due to family obligations, etc., I have been unable to do any art for almost two weeks…except for yesterday.  I signed up to take part in Danielle’s post card swap and forgot about it.  But I did manage to get my cards finished before the deadline on Monday.  Danielle’s blog is: A Love Affair with Paper.  I decided to mix it a bit from my usual collaged postcards.

This first card was completely doodled or zentangled with a Sharpie Pen.

This card started with an old map and book as a base and some painted papers collaged over it.

This card is a printer copy of a black and white doodle I did about a year ago or more. The printer ink didn’t print out as black so I just went with it. I re-doodled over it with my Sharpie Pen.  I like how it turned out.

For this last card, I used painted papers mixed with strip of black and white doodles.

Composition Journal #16

At first, I filled the whole page with collage pieces and added more paint and Caran d’Ache crayons. I outlined with my black and white Signo pens at the end. This very much pregnant lady showed up  after I glued down the collage pieces and I went with it….new life… new beginnings…spring.   Windows usually show up, too :)

I have received two more postcards from participants in Hanna‘s swap. One from Brigitte in New York and the other from Tanja in Serbia.  I don’t know if either of these girls have a blog. Be sure and check out Hanna’s blog because she is showing her mother’s postcards and how she made them…so cute!

Post Cards – Old and New

I found this old Irish themed post card. It says nothing about Saint Patrick but has other Irish symbols on it.  I am showing the back of the card so you can see the pretty handwriting.  Handwriting used to be an art.  I’m thinking this was mailed in the early 1900′s. The postmark doesn’t show the rest of the date because the card is heavily embossed.

Here are some post cards I traded for…first is Kitty’s card

http://slovoni.blogspot.com/

Second, is one from Amy over at Gauche Alchemy

Third one from Joyce in Washington state

A big thank you to all who traded with me, I still have some cards  to trade if anyone else is interested.  If you are, send your mailing address to my email at the top of the sidebar.

Post Card Giveaway

Spring is really here…oh my!  It’s absolutely gorgeous weather here today…about 66 degrees.   That can change but I’ll take it for the time being.

Here are  two more Post Cards that I finished Friday.  I’m going to send them to two different people who leave a comment on this post by the end of the week. (March 12).  With your comment, leave a link to your blog or if you do not have one leave an email address where you can be reached.  I will draw two names and notify the winners.  I’ll try and contact the winners sometime Friday evening.

I may not be posting this week because we need to get caught up on some outside yard chores as well as inside..you know…the dreaded spring cleaning.  At least, it is dreaded to me.  I’ll have to see how it goes, maybe it won’t take long or maybe it won’t get done at all :) However, there are a few things that can’t be put off any longer.
