I used a mix of black and white reply cards…you know the kind that you send back postage free…along with some of my doodles, magazine dots and stripes. I planned to embellish this with water color pencils but after using color in a few areas, I decided I wanted to keep it mostly black and white. I glued the pieces down with Mod Podge onto a background piece from an old calender.

At first thought, I planned to use the obvious title: Lady in Red but chose to go with the text on the page. I started this one with a piece of watercolor paper. The first layer was watercolor paints followed with various collage elements. I then altered them with oil pastels and acrylic paint. I had to make several attempts on the woman’s face because everything was smearing all together. I was too impatient about waiting for the black ink to dry and it was a mess. I thought about painting over the whole thing and starting over but it’s a process and I’m learning from the process.

I don’t like the white space below the pic’s on my last two posts. I’m trying to figure out what I’m doing to cause that.
I used watercolor paper for this piece I finished today. I put gesso on first, painted it with white acrylic and then used black paint over the white. I put another coat of gesso over that and I used a paintbrush handle to make swirls all over the paper except in the lower corner where I painted the face. I recently ordered a set of Dr. Ph. Martin’s Bombay India Inks from Dick Blick. These inks come in many bright colors. I think I’m going to love working with them. I used them like paints, brushing on splashes of color all over the background. I used oil pastels lightly over that. In some places I blended the pastels with the ink by going over them with water. The girl’s face is done mainly with watercolors and watercolor pencils. I used a little white acrylic paint to highlight the face. What started out as an experiment turned out fairly well?

This is a page done in my Moleskine art journal and is my version of the Picasso Project as found in Drawing Faces. I mentioned that book in the previous post. I used watercolor pencil and acrylic paint for color. I outlined the shapes with a liner brush using India Ink. It’s something quite different from what I usually attempt to do.

I have been down to my studio the past two days. I finished this collage today. I used magazine pieces altered with acrylic paint and India Ink. I also used some colored pencils on the base piece. The pieces were all adhered onto a piece of watercolor paper.

Note: I know the two women are in a scene from an old movie. Anyone know the name of the movie???
Well, now I’ve gone and done it. I fell while walking our dog Tuesday evening. I had to go to the doctor yesterday and let her check my leg out. Thankfully, my knee cap is still intact. I won’t bore you with a discourse on how the accident happened. Anyway, that means I have problems with stairs now. Here’s another drawing I did this week. Perhaps, I can turn one of these into a painting. Aren’t noses and mouths difficult to get right?

I have been battling a horrible cough, cold, sinus infection, for days now. I’m doing much better today…think I’m going to live
Here’s a sketch I worked on last week and added to this morning. It has been easy for me to draw because to do anything else would have required me to go downstairs to my art making place. I hesitate to call it a “studio.” I am envious of some online artists who have fabulous and wonderful studios. Anyway, my art making place is great and I can “art” away to my heart’s content.
My hubby and I have been catching up on all the seasons of the TV series LOST. We love it and are waiting anxiously for season four to get here. We started watching the series a week before Thanksgiving and finished season three yesterday. Maybe Four will be in the mail today.
YIKES! I am encountering my first problem with Vista. It’s not as easy to upload photos to this website using Vista as opposed to my old XP computer. This collage is one I finished this week in my composition book. I used my Prisma Color Stix and acrylic paints along with my magazine pieces.
