Collage – Floral Avenue
This was painted on a piece of old file folder. I used acrylic paint and some water soluble crayons. I also used a little bit of blue India ink. There are various layers of paint thinned down with glaze medium. I stamped with a empty bath tissue roll into wet paint. I also stamped the broad black leaves with a a stamp carved from an eraser. The big orange flower was glued onto the piece. I suppose this is technically NOT a collage. This measures about eight by 10 inches. This photo could have been bigger but because it was scanned horizontally, I had to make it much smaller.

Collage – Stamped Out
I had started this collage on a piece of cereal box a few weeks ago and had forgotten about it. I found it and decided to finish it. I was pleased with the background but not the girl. This piece is collage papers, mainly old stamps, and lots of acrylic paint and oil pastels. The girl was drawn and cut out from a sketch book. I think the figure would meld into the piece better if I had drawn it directly onto the background.

Cereal Box Journal (2)
Last night, while watching America’s Got Talent, I worked on these pages in my cereal/tea box journal. On the left side, I started by gluing letters all around the top and side. Don’t you love the tomatoes that I tore from a Subway wrapper? On the right I glued a part of a drawing that I came from my sketch book. The background is part of a painting that came from another Ideals Magazine.
Cereal Box Journal
I finished two pages in my cereal/tea box journal this morning. I scanned two pages at once.
The one on the left has collage scraps embellished with Caran d’Ache crayons. The page on the right has scrapbook paper plus a kitten picture from an old Ideals Country Magazine. I tried stamping with some corrugated cardboard but that didn’t turn out so well. I think I may have pressed down too hard.
I can’t stand having lots of white space on my posts but I don’t know how to fix it…I have revised this post about five times…arrrrgggghhh!
Art Journal – Power in Unity
Back after a few days…sometimes one has to dig themself out of the piles of paper clippings and face the inevitable…housework. This the next page in my journal…I don’t think I’ll ever go back to a Moleskine. I really like the multi-media paper that is in this one. If you missed what I said about it, check out the May 27, 2009 post: Alternating Currents. This page needs something else but I decided to let it stand as it is.

Art Journal – Unlimited Vistas
The background on this page was a wash of Caran d’Ache crayons. Then I used Portfolio oil pastels to brighten the colors. Last night while watching TV, I drew some random doodles in an apple shaped note pad. I used those here and then added some found poetry. The butterfly was not originally a butterfly…it’s cut from some other doodles. The crayons plus watercolor pencils add color to my drawings.
Art Journal – Reply Cityscape
This is facing the Reply Man. I started cutting shapes from the bars on the reply cards and this is the result. This time I used more circles and curves. I like making these black and white collages. I plan to keep saving the business reply mail cards from magazines and junk mail. It will be a challenge to see what else I can do with them.
Art Journal – The Reply Man
I stamped the edges of the pages after painting the background with acrylic paint. I felt like that kind of blocked me from doing the page….I felt “fenced in.” Next time, any kind of border will be added last thing. Meet the Reply Man. He’s made from the bars on the reply cards that fall out of new magazines. His faithful companion’s name is Barz. Anyway, I had fun putting them together, so simple, even a caveman could do it
Art Journal – Sweet Dreams
Here’s the facing page of the one shown below this one. I used the same paste papers with some other additional collage pieces. The upper right hand corner is from an ad…I don’t remember what they were advertising. I extended the tree on down. So, I have the realistic tree going on along with the abstract tree. I really like working with the paste papers. Old phone books are great for making those.
Art Journal – Plant Seeds of Peace
Another page finished. I used acrylic paint on the background along with some pen drawings. The collage shapes were cut from a phone book page that I painted ahead of time to use in my collages. I read somewhere that these are called paste papers. (If I am remembering correctly). I’m trying to have more layers in my collages. I would like to take one of Traci Bautista’s workshops before the summer is over…maybe, I will.
